Leela’s Story: In her first (immature) year she was found (trapped) by a falconer the fall/winter of 2009. She had been apparently hit by a car and was in an emaciated condition. The left eye was severely injured. Under the care of the falconer, she has recovered. The eye looks somewhat normal, even round, except for the scarred, misshaped pupil and iris. Because of the blind eye and her docile and naïve manner, she has been declared a bird that would not have a realistic chance in surviving release back to the wild. Leela has shown her wisdom and gratitude in becoming a falconry-trained hawk in our programs.
